ANNA, Texas — Pleasant Grove’s varsity tennis program survived the weather and a 3 a.m. wake-up call at the hotel to battle 16 teams in the Metroplex in front of more than 20 college recruits scouting the event.

It was the spring season opener for the Hawks.

“Our Hawks played with lack of sleep due to our hotel in McKinney having a 3 a.m. fire alarm go off,” Pleasant Grove coach Erik Pickett said. “We had to evacuate the hotel for over an hour as the fire department showed up for what turned out to be a false alarm.

“Despite the late night interruption, our Hawks to to work, creating memories for life on this spring season opener.”
