Blue Hose Prep for Home Opener Against Lander


CLINTON, S.C – The Presbyterian College Blue Hose women’s tennis team (1-2) is set for their home opener against the Lander Bearcats (0-0) on Monday, January 29 at 12:00 p.m.

SCOUTING THE BEARCATS
– Lander is set to play their first exhibition match of the spring season at Presbyterian on Thursday.
– The Bearcats enter this season after coming off of a 10-10 2023 spring season.
– Junior Hannah Panchal and sophomore Mille Elsborg both led the team with seven singles wins last season.
– Panchal teamed up with junior Fe Batoon to win five doubles matches for the Bearcats last season.
– Thursday’s match will be the third time that these two teams have seen action since the program joined Division I in 2007.
– The Blue Hose lead the all-time series between the two teams 2-0.
 
LAST TIME OUT
PC fell to the South Carolina Gamecocks on the road last Sunday afternoon. South Carolina has two players who are ranked in the top six of the most recent ITA singles rankings. In doubles they have a duo who is ranked at 26th.
 
A LOOK AT THE BLUE HOSE
Presbyterian was picked third in the conference’s preseason poll which is the highest in the program’s history. Last season the Blue Hose won 29.8 percent of their singles matches and 35.7 percent of their doubles matches. Last season, Lucianna Piedra and Claudia Sanchez led the team with eight singles wins, while winning nine doubles matches together. Both Piedra and Sanchez will be competing in the upcoming spring season.
 
SPRING SLATE
Head coach Joel Roberts 2024 spring slate features 21 matches including 16 outside of the conference beginning with this weekend’s matches in Charlotte. PC will play 11 matches at the Templeton tennis courts here at Presbyterian College this spring. In conference play, PC hosts Longwood, Gardner-Webb, and Charleston Southern.
