MEN’S TENNIS DOWNED BY UNBEATEN CORNELL, 6-1 – Le Moyne College Athletics


Ithaca, N.Y. – Cornell University remained unbeaten on the year with a 6-1 win over the Le Moyne College men’s tennis team on Sunday evening at the Reis Tennis Center.
 
The Big Red (4-0) claimed the doubles point with wins at the two positions to finish. Samuel Paquette and Noah Eisenberg teamed for a 6-1 win at the third spot over graduate students Kacper Piekarek (Wroclaw, Poland/Autorskrie Licea Artystyczne Akademickie/Missouri-Kansas City) and Rodrigo Beires (Porto, Portugal/Agrupamento de Escolas Garcia de Orta/Universidade Portucalense). Eric Verdes and Radu Papoe clinched the point with a 6-2 victory at the first position over junior Peter Hatton (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt/Club Med Academics/Army West Point) and graduate student Luka Stojanovic (Paracin, Serbia/Kosta Cukic/University of Incarnate Word/Lipscomb).

The Big Red won all five singles matches that were played to completion. Le Moyne evened the score at one apiece when Paquette had to retire at the fourth position, trailing 6-4, 3-0, against graduate student Leon Grundstroem (Hoganas, Sweden/Northwood). Cornell regained the lead when Felipe Pinzon claimed a 6-2, 6-0 victory over graduate student Alvaro Nunez (Jerez De La Frontera, Spain/IES Padre Luis Coloma/Southwest Baptist) at the third spot. Muhammad Dossani followed with a 6-4, 6-0 win at the sixth position over junior Xavier Branagan (Wollstonecraft, Australia/St. Aloysius’ College). Bradley Paliska clinched the victory for the Big Red with a 6-3, 6-2 win at the second spot over Stojanovic. Eisenberg was a 6-4, 6-4 winner at the fifth position against Piekarek. In the tightest match of the evening, Aman Sharma rallied for a 4-6, 6-4, 12-10 victory over Hatton at the top spot.

Le Moyne (2-2) returns to the courts on Friday against Colgate University at 4:00 p.m. at Drumlins Country Club.
