Area Prep Basketball Report for Wednesday, Jan. 31
In boys prep basketball action Tuesday, Karr remained tied for first with Jesuit in District 9-4A with a 59-46 victory over Holy Cross at home.
Jyren Brooks was a force for the Cougars with 16 points and 16 rebounds while Keith Jones added 13 points and eight rebounds. Dezemen Favorite finished with 10 points.
Karr (18-9, 6-2) entertains Country Day Friday in a non-district contest.
The Tigers (13-13, 1-6) will host Brother Martin in district play Friday.
In boys prep basketball action Tuesday, Archbishop Shaw downed Belle Chasse 61-51 at Belle Chasse in its District 10-4A.
Shaw led 22-14 after one quarter and 37-25 at halftime. It was 48-35 heading to the fourth quarter.
Junior Kobe Butler topped the Eagles with 17 points while senior Chris Creppel added 10 points.
Senior MC Bacani led Belle Chasse with 14 points and three assists while senior Kyle Reeves had 12 points and three assists.
Shaw (20-4, 1-0) has won six straight games. The Eagles return to district play Friday night at New Orleans Military & Maritime.
The Cardinals (16-10, 0-2) returns to district play Friday at Landry.
Sarah Reed won its sixth straight game, handling Haynes Academy 80-47 in a District 9-3A contest in Metairie.
Dontroy Thorne and Parnell Watt each led the Olympians with 16 points and seven rebounds while Kirt Riley had 16 points and five rebounds. Ky’lil Wilson had 14 points.
Sarah Reed (21-5, 3-1) returns to action tonight at Varnado at 5:30 p.m.
The Yellow Jackets (8-8, 0-3) will entertain Morris Jeff in district play this evening at 5:30 p.m.
In a non-district contest, Salmen handled Kentwood 73-25 at home.
Senior Shawn Washington led the Spartans with 14 points, nine rebounds and three steals, senior Jeremiah Carter had 11 points, nine rebounds, five assists and three steals while senior Tre Hartley finished with 10 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
Salmen (12-15) returns to District 8-4A action Friday, hosting Pearl River.
The Kangaroos (3-15) will entertain Independence on Friday.
The Salmen girls were also victorious, using a big fourth quarter to down St. Scholastica 44-38 on the road.
Trailing 33-29 heading to the final quarter, the Spartans outscored the Doves 15-5 in the final frame to take home the win.
SSA led 18-17 after one quarter and 28-23 at halftime.
Destiny Bennett led Salmen with 12 points while Akayla McMooian had nine points.
Emilee Duet topped the Doves with 22 points.
Salmen (13-14, 3-1) next faces a tough non-district game at Mandeville Thursday.
SSA (18-7, 2-1) will host Archbishop Hannan next Tuesday.
