Old Dominion’s Rolland de Ravel and Johnson Sweep Sun Belt Tennis Players of the Week


NEW ORLEANS – Old Dominion’s Cosme Rolland de Ravel and Sofia Johnson each tallied a win over an autonomy-five foe to sweep Sun Belt Conference Tennis Players of the Week honors. 

Men’s Tennis Player of the Week
Cosme Rolland de Ravel, Old Dominion

Monarchs’ sophomore Cosme Rolland de Ravel went 4-0 on the week and helped Old Dominion to its best start since 2016-17 with a pair of road wins at Wisconsin and Drake. On Friday night, he and Jakob Cadonau clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win at Wisconsin. In singles, his 6-2, 6-1 win over Zlatohlavek clinched the team win at No. 3. At Drake on Sunday, he and Cadonau clinched the doubles point again with a 6-3 win at No. 2. His singles win on Sunday was a three-set 0-6, 6-3, 6-1 win over Matthew Clegg to put ODU up 5-0. The Monarchs are 4-0 on the season.

Women’s Tennis Player of the Week
Sofia Johnson, ODU

Monarchs’ junior Sofia Johnson was 2-1 on the weekend as ODU took second in the Iowa State Regional of the ITA Kickoff Weekend Tournament. On Saturday, the Monarchs defeated host Iowa State 4-0 with Johnson and Lidiia Rasskouskaia clinching the doubles point with a 7-6 (7-4) win over the 56th-ranked duo of Anna Kuearum and Isabella Dunlap. In singles, she won 6-2, 6-2 over Kuearum to put ODU up 3-0.
