Basketball roundup: Osakis girls lock up Prairie Conference title

The Osakis girls basketball team has dominated the Prairie Conference this season. And after a 59-30 win on Tuesday over Long Prairie-Grey Eagle (3-14, 0-7 Prairie), Osakis (9-10, 7-0 Prairie Conference) locked up the 2023-24 Prairie Conference title.

“What a great accomplishment for this team,” Osakis head coach Pat Kalpin said. We were able to get a good start to the game with a 10-0 run, with Greta Faber scoring seven of the first 10 points. After that, we were able to hit some outside shots; Hailey Walker knocked down three 3’s in the first half to help open the game up. We had multiple girls step up tonight and do their part. I thought that Kaelyn Walker played a solid game on both ends of the court. Maggie Dirkes did a nice job of playing in the high post, with a couple of great passes inside, and also scored eight points. Stephy Marthaler did a good job of coming in, handling the ball, and playing well in one of her first games with significant varsity minutes.”

This is Osakis’ third straight conference title.

On Tuesday, Madeline Anderson led Osakis on the boards with 10 rebounds, while Annie Anderson led the team in points with 14.

Osakis plays at Melrose (5-13) on Friday at 7:15 p.m.
