Srinagar, Jan 31: In a  move towards enhancing electrical safety standards, Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) issued a ban on the sale, purchase, and use of Nichrome Coil-based crude gadgets.

The directive, communicated to all sub-divisional officers, highlighted the imperative need to enforce this government order across outlets dealing in electrical equipment.

The ban encompasses the entire lifecycle of Nichrome Coil-based crude heaters, boilers, and steamers, citing non-compliance with the requisite specifications of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) or the International Electro-Technical Commission.

An official order underscored the potential hazards posed by these non-conforming devices.

Despite commendable efforts by electrical divisions in confiscating such crude heating appliances from consumers, a disconcerting trend emerged. Post-seizure, consumers were observed procuring fresh Nichrome coil-based crude gadgets from markets where they remained readily available.

This, in turn, led to a resurgence of electricity misuse, undermining the dedicated efforts of the authorities.

To address this persisting challenge, the KPDCL has mandated sub-divisional officers to implement the government order effectively.

 These officers are tasked with circulating copies of the directive to all business outlets dealing in electrical equipment, instructing them to refrain from procuring and selling any Nichrome Coil-based heating gadgets. Non-compliance with these guidelines will result in seizure of the prohibited items.

The overarching objective of this directive is to permanently eradicate the availability of Nichrome Coil-based heaters, boilers, and steamers in the market, thereby ensuring enhanced electrical safety standards.
