High school girls basketball: Texas phenom Aaliyah Chavez among national scoring leaders


The top high school girls basketball recruit in the Class of 2025, Aaliyah Chavez of Monterey (Lubbock, Texas) is among the nation’s leading scorers according to statistics submitted to MaxPreps.

ESPNW/HoopGurlz has Chavez pegged as the No. 1 player in the junior class. The 5-foot-10 junior point guard is averaging 38.5 points per game, leading Monterey to a 28-5 record. She has scored at least 40 points in 14 games including a high of 57. 

Chavez piled up 39 points, 19 rebounds and 14 assists Tuesday night in a 102-35 win over Cooper (Abilene).

Iyanna Wade of Clairton (Pa.) leads the nation in scoring at 41.8 points per game. The junior has scored at least 30 points in every game for the 15-2 Bears. She put up 65 points in an 82-32 win over Steel Valley last week.

Maddyn Greenway of Providence Academy (Plymouth, Minn.), the daughter Minnesota Vikings legend Chad Greenway, is just outside the top 10 at 32.9 points per game. In addition to her scoring totals, the sophomore is tallying 8.7 rebounds and 6.7 assists per contest. Younger sister Beckett Greenway is also making an impact for the Lions as a seventh grader.
