Alec Baldwin was set to be arraigned on fresh charges in the 2021 shooting death of Rust cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
The actor, who had already been charged with involuntary slaughter in the case, pleaded not guilty to the new allegations, according to People magazine.
Baldwin, 65, submitted his plea on Wednesday, waiving his right to an arraignment, according to New Mexico court documents. If found guilty, Baldwin may face a jail sentence ranging from 18 months to three years.
A New Mexico grand jury re-charged Baldwin on January 19, a year after he was originally indicted in Hutchins’ death. Initially, those charges were dismissed in April 2023, but prosecutors did not completely disregard them.
Hutchins was shot on the set of the tragic film in 2021 when a prop gun was filled with genuine bullets rather than prop ones. The cinematographer died in the event, while director Joel Souza was injured.
Baldwin has frequently stated that he was unaware that the gun was loaded with a live round and that he did not pull the trigger.
According to court documents, Baldwin has been released on his own recognisance.
The court has allowed him to market Rust, but he is not permitted to discuss the accident with anyone on the production team who may testify or the putative victim(s).
