Mines Environment and Mineral Conservation week: 3 limestone mines inspected


The 13th Mines Environment and Mineral Conservation (MEMC) Week 2023-24 was celebrated at three mines of Star Cement Limited under the aegis of Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM), Guwahati Region.

The MEMC week inspection was conducted at Lumshnong Limestone Mine, Wah-Pynkon Limestone Mine and Brishyrnot Limestone Mine.

The event was graced by management representative, D Bansal and mines were evaluated by the inspection team led by Shishupal Singh with S.S. Behra, Ranuj Kr. Das and Veera Babu.

The team assessed three mines based on their performance in afforestation, waste dump management, top soil management, reclamation and rehabilitation, management of sub-grade minerals, and installation and use of dust suppression systems, as well as monitoring and sustainability.

In order to promote awareness about mine environments and mineral conservation, observance, inspection of mines, and competitions were organized for employees and stakeholders. These activities included various environment awareness programs such as slogan, poster competitions. These initiatives were aimed at creating awareness and promoting the importance of the mine environment and mineral conservation.

Shishupal Singh and Dinesh Chandra Sinha, DGM (Mines), Star Cement Limited hoisted the flag and took the oath to protect nature and mineral conservation.

Star Cement senior officials also felicitated the inspection team members during the observation.

Bansal thanked the IBM for their support and guidance and congratulated the mine management for their endless efforts in carrying out mining activities in eco-friendly manner and for the sustainable mining like installing water sprinkling system all along the haul roads of mines, bio-toilets, solar lighting system, rain water harvesting system and etc.

A cultural program was also hosted by the School children of Star Public School, and the mine employees.
