Xiaomi may launch a wearable device that can detect secret cameras

Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi has reportedly got approval for a patent for anti-peep prompts and gadgets. According to a report by GizmoChina, this new patent suggests that Xiaomi is developing a wearable device that can help users to know when they are being secretly photographed or recorded. The patented technology will be able to obtain environmental image data through a camera device and determine the shooting angle of the device.

How this device will work

The patented technology will provide an anti-peep prompt via the attached wearable device when it detects a user within the shooting range of the device based on the angle.
This will prevent the user from getting photographed when they are in the range of a secret camera or other shooting devices. The technology is designed to secure the privacy of the user from unauthorised recording. As per the patent, the wearable will be able to achieve the anti-peep function only when it has an in-built camera. However, the patient didn’t explain whether the user can accurately pinpoint the position of the shooting device. These notifications will help users to try to act on the anti-peep prompt by moving away from the range of the shooting device.
Smartwatches and bracelets that Xiaomi currently offers do not have cameras. However, the Mi Rabbit children’s watch has a camera. But this is not expected to be the first device to feature this anti-peep functionality.
Meanwhile, Xiaomi’s MIJIA smart glasses are equipped with cameras and could be products that are capable of providing anti-peep prompt functionality.
The report also notes that Xiaomi may be preparing to launch a new lineup of wearable devices that will support the anti-peep function. So, the upcoming Xiaomi smartwatches and bracelets are likely to come with in-built cameras.
