Third Environment Conservation Fair concludes at Nehru Rose Garden

The Third Environment Conservation Fair, organised by the Municipal Corporation (MC) and the NGO, Society for Conservation and Healing of Environment (SOCH), concluded at Nehru Rose Garden on Sunday with a message to save air, water and soil for the coming generations.

On the last day of the two-day fair, Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) Chairman Adarsh Pal Vig, poet Dr Surjit Patar and MC Zonal Commissioner Jasdev Singh Sekhon, among others, participated in the fair.

Different stalls put up during the fair, especially regarding stubble management and alternatives to plastic, were popular among participants and visitors. On this occasion, different organisations and gram panchayats, etc, contributing to environmental protection were honoured with cash prizes worth around Rs 5 lakh.

Dera Baba Daya Ram Sports and Welfare Club, Kot Dharmu, received a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh under the Purana Jhiri (Gram Panchayat) Award.

Under the ‘Jahan Safai Wahan Khudai’ Award for gram panchayats, the Mohi Kalan panchayat (Patiala district) was honoured with a cash prize of Rs 75,000. Under the Wildlife Protection Award, workers engaged in the protection and rescue of wild animals were given items such as torches, saddles, jackets, shoes, etc, worth Rs 50,000. In Organic Farming (Individual Special), Gurmeet Singh from Bahawalpur, Patiala, was honoured with a cash prize of Rs 50,000. Under Terrace Garden (individual special), Maninderjit Kaur of Talwandi Chaudhary in Kapurthala was awarded a cash prize of Rs 25,000.
