Killer Mike’s Grammy Night Ends in Handcuffs, Despite Winning Three Trophies

On Sunday evening, rapper Killer Mike was handcuffed and led by police out of the Grammy Awards event.

The rapper had already won three Grammy Awards in the ceremony’s pre-televised part.

Variety has reached out to Killer Mike’s representatives, CBS, the Recording Academy, and the LAPD for more information on the incident.

The breaking news was initially reported by journalist Chris Gardner via footage published on X/Twitter.

Rapper Killer Mike won three Grammy Awards during the pre-show ceremony, laying the groundwork for a successful evening ahead of the main telecast, which begins at 5:00 p.m. Pacific Time.

Killer Mike won all three categories for which he was nominated: Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance for his single Scientists & Engineers, as well as Best Rap Album for Michael, his sixth studio album, which will be released in June 2023.

Killer Mike’s album Michael won the Best Rap Album category, beating Drake and 21 Savage’s Her Loss, Metro Boomin’s Heroes & Villains, Nas’ King’s Disease III, and Travis Scott’s Utopia.

Killer Mike reached a huge milestone on Sunday night, as he received his first Grammy Award since 2003, when he was recognised for his role on OutKast’s The Whole World in the Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group category.
