Senator Imee Marcos has lauded the nutrition initiatives of Angeles City, offering particular praise for the Pusong Mamon project. This health-centred scheme, which involves the distribution of nutritious malunggay buns to children, is not merely a food aid program but a public health intervention aimed at combating the issue of malnutrition. The program bears resemblance to the legacy of her father and has successfully managed to reduce malnourishment rates in the city.
Addressing Malnutrition with Pusong Mamon
The Pusong Mamon initiative, launched in 2022, is a joint endeavor of the local government and Giada’s Bakery. Under the stewardship of Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr., Vice Mayor Vicky Vega-Cabigting, and other officials, the program has been actively addressing malnourishment issues in the city. The success of the program indicates the power of locally-driven, targeted nutrition initiatives that cater to the specific needs of the community.
Providing Aid to the Indigent
During her visit to Angeles City, Senator Marcos demonstrated her commitment to social welfare by distributing aid to 1,447 individuals in crisis. Through the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS), a total of P4.3 million was distributed to those in need. Additionally, 1,000 nutribuns were handed out, a symbolic gesture echoing the Pusong Mamon initiative’s mission.
Medical Assistance to Indigent Patients
Senator Marcos also provided P1 million worth of medical assistance to indigent patients at the Rafael Lazatin Memorial Medical Center. This act of assistance underscores the Senator’s commitment to addressing both the immediate and long-term health needs of the less fortunate.
