The Museum of Visual Materials offers low-cost art classes for the community

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – The Museum of Visual Materials offers a wide array of arts and crafts classes Monday through Wednesday each week.

“We’re always trying to come up with something special and educational and creative for kids and adults of all ages and abilities,” said Education Director Anna Hudelson.

Hudelson comes up with classes and craft projects that people can participate in on-site, and she also assembles them in to-go bags. They call them Curbside Crafts.

“So we have the paint, the supplies, then you can take it home and create it at your house,” said Huddleson.

The Museum of Visual Materials also offers classes specifically for homeschoolers.

“I think that it’s just another opportunity for the homeschoolers in the community to get together, socialize, be creative, learn, and have a welcoming environment,” said Huddelson.

The historic 1887 building that houses the Museum of Visual Materials also serves as a private events venue, which is how they are able to provide arts and crafts classes at a low cost.

“We have private events that happen Thursday through Sunday, a lot of wedding receptions, ceremonies, non-profit events, and that helps fund our low-cost art classes,” said Huddelson.

For Huddelson, it’s all about sharing the joy of art.

“I love it. It definitely motivates me to keep coming up with ideas, to facilitate their learning, their creativity, and maybe this is something that sparks something in them that they want to continue, helping them find a passion in art like I have,” said Huddelson.
