Famous, directed by Jody Hill and produced by Black Bear and Sam Esmail, will star Zac Efron in the starring role.

At the upcoming EFM, Black Bear will push Famous to foreign buyers, while CAA Media Finance and WME Independent will handle U.S. rights.

Efron will play two characters: Lance Dunkquist, a die-hard fan, and Hollywood star James Jansen.

Chad Hodge, who previously developed a television series based on Blake Crouch’s Wayward Pines trilogy, adapted the novel for the screen.

Esmail and his producing partner Chad Hamilton will work under the Esmail Corp. name.

The plot revolves around Lance Dunkquist, who possesses one trait that will change his life: he has the face of a movie star.

Lance looks just like James Jansen, a Hollywood superstar. Lance is set to travel to Los Angeles to pursue his dream. Lance will be famous, no matter what it takes.

Efron has gotten some of his career’s top accolades for his performance in the wrestling thriller The Iron Claw.

Not only did he garner rave reviews for his performance as real-life wrestler Kevin Von Erich, but the picture also became one of A24’s biggest box-office successes, grossing $35 million domestically.
