The Cinnamon Club is one of the most revered Indian restaurants in London. Housed in the former Westminster Library, the restaurant hums with class and hospitable efficiency. There are clubby ante rooms where you can enjoy a pre-dinner cocktail before being guided into the original main library and reading room. The shelves are still there as are the books.

The menu doesn’t read like any old curry house. Among the starters there is clove smoked Anjou squab with beetroot raita, pumpkin and peanut; grilled Scottish scallops with varhadi thecha spices; and a char-grilled chalk stream trout fillet with carom seed, samphire and pickled radish.
