ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The Education Department announced that applications are now open for the New York State Summer School of the Arts. The summer arts programs for grades eight through 12 will run from July 6 to July 27.

The in-residency programs will feature three different artistic disciplines: theatre, visual arts and media arts. Over 18,000 students have trained through the summer program since its founding in 1970. The programs will be held at SUNY Fredonia, located at 280 Central Avenue in Fredonia.

State Education Commissioner Betty Rosa said “The New York State Summer School of the Arts program serves as a catalyst for personal growth and offers students a platform to explore their creativity and self-expression. Students emerge from this exceptional summer experience ready to thrive and contribute to the cultural richness of our society.”

“This transformative program empowers students and provides them with the opportunity to enhance their artistic talent under the guidance of professional artists.” said Board of Regents Chancellor Lester Young, Jr. “We are proud to offer this life-changing experience, which fosters critical thinking, resilience, and a deep appreciation for the arts for young people across this state.”

NYSSSA applications are due by March 8 for the theatre group and March 15 for the visual and media arts groups. Applications can be completed online through the Education Department website.
