Something Wicked develops, offering excitement and amazement.
The highly anticipated first trailer for the film adaptation of Broadway smash Wicked premiered during the Super Bowl on Sunday.
Fans were treated to a peek of Ariana Grande in all her pink-gold glory as Glinda the Good Witch, brandishing the famed star-shaped wand and wearing a billowing, puff-sleeved dress and crown fit for a fairy tale.
Along with Grande, Cynthia Erivo enthralled audiences as Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West.
The film, directed by Jon M. Chu, best known for his stunning adaptation of In the Heights from stage to screen in 2021, promises to captivate audiences with its two-part cinematic version of Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman’s Tony-winning Broadway masterwork.
The trailer gave viewers a tantalising glimpse into Oz’s magical world, where two opposing witches form an unexpected relationship.
The film is based on Gregory Maguire’s popular 1995 novel, Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, and has a star-studded ensemble.
In addition to Erivo and Grande, Jonathan Bailey plays Fiyero, while screen legends such as Jeff Goldblum, Marissa Bode, Bowen Yang, Keala Settle, Ethan Slater, and Michelle Yeoh bring life to the rich world of Oz.
Set to open in theatres on November 27, 2024.
