TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – A teen wanted for allegedly killing a man whose body was found in a burning car in Toledo was arrested out of state, police say.
According to Toledo Police, a 16-year-old boy charged with murder in the death of Josiah Gill was arrested in Alabama on Friday. 13 Action News does not name minors accused of crimes unless the courts certify them as adults.
Police announced charges against the teen on Jan. 26, at which point he was still on the run. Another person was charged in connection to the case and was arrested in January.
Alexander Perez, 31, is facing a slew of charges in the case. Police affidavits allege Perez set fire to the vehicle while Gill’s body was in the backseat, then later told investigators he did not know anything about the crime. A grand jury indicted Perez on charges including Aggravated Arson, Arson, Tampering with Evidence, Abuse of a Corpse, Obstructing Justice and Vandalism. He pleaded not guilty to all charges.
According to the Lucas County Coroner’s Office, first responders pulled the body of Josiah Gill, 20, from a burning car under I-280 Front Street exit ramp on Nov. 9, 2023. An autopsy revealed he died from a gunshot wound to the head and that Gill was not alive during the fire. The coroner ruled his death a homicide.
Police are waiting on more information and couldn’t say when the teen will be transported back to Toledo to face the murder charge.
