Meow Wolf, the new interactive art museum, unveiled 40 artists who are behind the soon-to-open exhibit.

GONZO247 will be a featured artist at Meow Wolf Houston, as an Artist Liaison.

GONZO247, a lifelong Houston graffiti artist said, “The brilliance and vision of these artists echo the heartbeat of Houston.”

“Collectively, this exhibition will be a reflection of Houston culture as much as the fantastical realms of Meow Wolf that fans expect,” GONZO247 said.

Other artists include Kill Joy, an art activist and Fifth Ward resident who has work that is grounded in honoring the earth and seeking environmental and social justice. Award-winning puppeteer artist El Franco Lee II will also be featured.

Last May, Meow Wolf broke ground on its future exhibition site with a ceremony in the Fifth Ward area just northeast of downtown Houston. This is the fifth exhibition, and will be the second in Texas; the other is in Grapevine, between Dallas and Fort Worth. The museum is also in Santa Fe, Las Vegas, and Denver.

The museum is a $42 million entertainment venue that will feature multi-media art installations from local artists, art gallery spaces, restaurants and retail shops. It’s the city’s latest effort to highlight its thriving diverse communities.

Meow Wolf’s Senior Director of Artist Collaboration, Han Santana-Sayles said he wants every Meow Wolf to be a reflection of relevant artists in that region.

“In order to find the best creatives to work with, we love consulting with local curators or nonprofits who support emerging artists to build artist lists with us,” he said in a press release.

The museum is expected to bring in over 100 jobs and plans to use 32,242 square feet of a historic 115,000-square-foot warehouse with hopes of attracting more tourism for visitors and residents.

Tarsha Jackson, District B Council Member who represents the area said it’s not only focused on job opportunities, but also community engagement.

“It’s community-centered,” she said “I’m a community organizer, I’m always about engaging the community, and this is what Meow Wolf is doing.”

This location is set to open in 2024.
