Nahant Cultural Council funding classical music concert

The Nahant Cultural Council is bringing a classical music concert to the Community Center on Saturday, March 2.

The concert will be performed by the string quartet Fin de Siècle, which features violinist and Nahant resident Katharina Radlberger, violinist Sarah Ibbett, violist Karen McConomy, and cellist Jennifer Morsches.

Before taking her talents to Nahant, Radlberger studied music and Baroque violin performance at the Conservatory in Vienna in her native Austria. She learned under Concentus Musicus Vienna Concertmaster Erich Höbarth.

Fin de Siècle, which is French for “end of the century,” originally formed in 2017. The majority of the quartet’s performances have taken place in Massachusetts and New Hampshire, with regular appearances at Nahant’s Ellingwood Chapel. The upcoming performance will include music from 19th-century composers Antonin Dvorak and Claude Debussy. In 1893, the pair wrote contrasting pieces, Dvorak’s “Looking West” and Debussy’s “Looking East,” which will be performed at the concert.

The Nahant Cultural Council “promotes excellence, education, diversity, and inclusion in the arts, humanities, and science” by awarding grants funded by the Mass Cultural Council. The classical music concert is one of five events funded in part by the council in fiscal year 2024. The council’s funding priorities include programs that focus on local artists and promote community-wide events.

For reservations and tickets, the town encourages residents to contact Radlberger at [email protected].
