RIDGEVILLE, S.C. (WCBD) — A ten-car collision on I-26 Monday resulted in nine people injured and hours of traffic congestion.
Monday afternoon, the Department of Transportation map showed that a crash occurred at I-26 in the eastbound lanes by exit 187, about two miles from Jedburg Road.
Lance Cpl. Nick Pye with the South Carolina Highway Patrol confirmed nine people were taken to different local hospitals with injuries. News 2 has reached out to Berkeley County for more information on the severity of the injuries and is awaiting a reply.
The collision stalled traffic for several hours, and traffic was backed up for miles as crews worked the scene.
Berkeley County EMS and Pine Ridge Fire Rescue responded to the scene.
The cause of the collision has not yet been determined. SCHP is investigating this crash.
