A West Monroe man was arrested on numerous drug charges after he was involved in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 20 in Lincoln Parish Thursday.
Deavery Lynn Washington, 34, was found by Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s deputies at the scene of a crash at mile marker 94 on Interstate 20 near Choudrant about 1:30 a.m. Thursday morning. Washington was found still seated in the driver’s seat with loose marijuana observed on his shirt. A search located a bag of suspected alprazolam (Xanax) in his pants pocket. Washington said he had never seen the drug but was taking it from one friend to another.
Washington said he was texting while driving on the Interstate and drove into the ditch to avoid hitting another vehicle.
A search of his vehicle located a plastic bag of suspected marijuana on the driver’s seat. A shoe box on the back seat contained suspected cocaine, marijuana, oxycodone, digital scales, and materials commonly used for packaging drugs for sale.
Washington was booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center for possession of alprazolam with intent to distribute, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of oxycodone, possession of drug paraphernalia, and careless operation of a vehicle.
Bail was set at $90,000.
