LINTHICUM, MD — Four new budget flights debut this spring at Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport.
Frontier Airlines will fly from BWI Airport to:
- Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE)
- Charlotte (CLT)
- Chicago Midway (MDW)
- Detroit (DTW)
All four flights were announced with introductory sale fares of $19 plus taxes and fees one-way with limited availability.
“This is a massive expansion of our operation from coast to coast and internationally as part of our focus on growing in underserved and overpriced routes,” Josh Flyr, Frontier’s vice president of network and operations design, said in a Jan. 23 press release. “More destinations and greater frequency means a larger number of consumers will soon be able to enjoy Frontier’s convenient, affordable ‘Low Fares Done Right.’”
Frontier announced the Cleveland flight on Wednesday. That route debuts May 16 with three flights per week.
“Our growth in Cleveland is soaring,” Frontier CEO Barry Biffle said in a Wednesday press release. “We’re thrilled to connect consumers in Northeast Ohio with low fares to even more destinations throughout the U.S. Our new crew base at CLE set to open in March will help support our rapidly growing operations.”
The other flights were announced on Jan. 23, when Frontier expanded its service between 38 airports.
The Charlotte, Chicago and Detroit routes all launch on April 10. There will be daily trips to Charlotte and four weekly flights to Chicago and Detroit.
“Frontier is the fastest-growing airline at BWI Marshall Airport,” airport spokesperson Jonathan Dean said in a Wednesday press release. “Airline and passenger traffic continue to grow at BWI.”
BWI Airport said its airline seat capacity, or the number of available tickets for departing flights, has increased since the pandemic.
The airport’s first-quarter airline seat capacity is up 5% from last year and 2% from 2019 before the pandemic. Its second-quarter capacity is also expected to be up by 5% from the same period in 2023.
