Sandusky woman accused of posing as a nurse, working at health care facilities

SANDUSKY, Ohio (WTVG) – Investigators call it a case of stolen identity, sounding like the movie “Catch Me If You Can.” A woman allegedly posed as a nurse and a Physical Therapist without any medical training whatsoever.

“We have charged her with a couple felonies. That was just to kind of get the ball rolling. We expect a very large indictment,” said Detective Joe Rotuno with Perkins Twp. Police.

Amanda Maynard-Murphy, 33, of Sandusky, is facing two felony charges. Perkins Twp. Police explain she allegedly used the Physical Therapy number of a different Amanda Maynard and the Social Security Number of a separate woman in North Carolina to pass background checks.

Maynard-Murphy is then accused of working in the medical field at Parkvue and NOMS Healthcare, both in Perkins Twp. outside Sandusky, Ohio.

“You know, she would have access to patients’ personal information. So, I know one thing that NOMS is doing is they’ve reached out to all their patients. They’re offering them a year’s subscription to LifeLock,” said Detective Rotuno.

It does not stop there. Police also said Maynard-Murphy got jobs at health care facilities in Ashland, Green Springs, and Oak Harbor, and there may be more. When they arrested her, police say Maynard-Murphy was not employed anywhere, but she was at home wearing medical gear.

“But the day we arrested her, she was in scrubs and had a stethoscope on when she was arrested, and this was at like, noon, 11 o’clock in the morning. Again, Catch Me if You Can. I don’t know if that’s the case. Maybe she was just putting on a front,” said Detective Rotuno.

In a statement, the Parkvue Community run by United Church Homes wrote to 13 Action News:

“All allegations of misconduct are met with extensive internal investigation, cooperation with external oversight agencies, and corrective action if and when needed. While we understand this matter is of interest to the community, United Church Homes and The Parkvue Community are unable to comment specifically on matters under law enforcement investigation.”
