Northern Colorado residents now have another option to learn to rock out with the opening of a new School of Rock music education school location in east Loveland.
The new location, which opened in January in the Loveland Yards just west of Interstate 25, is owned and operated by Chuck and Donna Silber, who also own the Fort Collins music school location.
Chuck Silber said the pair opened the Fort Collins location in August of 2020 and have seen great success and continued interest over the last three years. It was because of that popularity, he added, that the Loveland location came to be.
“The reason we fast tracked opening this school was because we ran into space limitations,” he said, adding they had always intended on opening another location. “It was a little sooner than we thought because of the popularity.”
Silber said the Fort Collins location has seen a lot of interest from people all over Northern Colorado and southern Wyoming, but especially from people in the Loveland and Windsor areas. He said the spot in the Loveland Yards offers people in the Loveland area a closer spot to come and use.
“Even though it is only 12 miles away, that is difficult sometimes for parents to get their kids there after school,” he said. “We thought this was a great central location to be able to access all those other areas that driving into (Fort Collins) may be a little bit too far for them.”
The Loveland location offers a suite of musical creation opportunities for budding musicians. With both group and individual lessons, kids in the school program can learn to play the guitar, bass, drums, keyboard or ukulele as well as vocal work, or a combination of several.
Silber said the philosophy of the School of Rock program is the best way to learn music is to perform it. He said the core programing is a combination of lessons and eventually performing in a concert. He said recitals for the school are “a real rock concert in a real venue.”
“These kids get on stage at all the major rock venues around Northern Colorado,” he said, adding in previous years this has included the Aggie Theatre and Mishawaka as well as events like FoCoMx. “Not only does it help them learn music, but they get that unique experience of getting up on stage at a real rock venue.”
Jordan Pasquin, regional music director for the Fort Collins and Loveland schools, said the program offers many benefits to learners. He said when he learned that the Fort Collins location was opening years ago, he thought it was “exactly what our music scene in Northern Colorado (needed).”
“It creates real opportunities,” he said.
Mike Adams, music director at the Loveland location, said the team is “unbelievably excited” to start bringing in students.
Silber said that so far while the location has only been soft-opened — with an official grand opening scheduled for late April that will include a music festival in the parking lot — they have seen a lot of interest from the community. He said they are “thrilled to be here” and are happy to already be hearing feedback from residents.
“We have goals that we set for growth, and we are tracking way ahead of those already,” he said. “The reception has been really good and we are just getting it going.”
The Loveland School of Rock location, 5737 McWhinney Blvd., is open from 2 to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. The Loveland location will hold an open house this Saturday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., featuring tours of the school, opportunities to meet instructors and live performances.
More information on the location can be found on the store’s website and Facebook pages.
