Reds’ Elly De La Cruz smashes car window with foul ball (video)

Cincinnati Reds shortstop Elly De La Cruz and pitcher Hunter Greene are two of the most promising young talents in Major League Baseball.

De La Cruz, who hit 13 home runs and stole 35 bases as a rookie last season, squared off against Greene, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2017 MLB Draft, in Reds’ spring training batting practice Tuesday in Arizona.

After Greene struck out De La Cruz in the first at-bat, the 22-year-old switch-hitter extracted revenge in the next at-bat — sort of.

Batting lefty, De La Cruz fouled off a pitch from Greene that flew into the parking lot and right into the rear driver’s side window of Greene’s SUV.

“You’re paying for it,” Greene joked, according to Cincinnati columnist Mike Petraglia.

“You make more than me,” De Le Cruz responded. Greene, who last season signed a six-year, $53 million extension with the Reds, is set to make $3.33 million this season. De La Cruz, meanwhile, will earn $770,000 in salary from the Reds this season, per Spotrac.

Greene also addressed the foul ball on Instagram, taking a photo with De La Cruz in front of the broken window.

“Better have @safelife on speed dial,” Greene wrote in an Instagram story.

The Reds play their first spring training game on Saturday, Feb. 24 against the Cleveland Guardians at Goodyear Ballpark in Goodyear, Arizona.
