WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — First responders have been dispatched to several reports of vehicles versus property recently.
First responders were dispatched to a business at the intersection of E Sunset Drive and Britton Road in Bellingham due to a report of a car versus building crash on Friday, February 16th, shortly after 8pm. The vehicle suffered heavy frontend damage and a rollup door at the business was also damaged. A 30-year-old woman was arrested and charged with suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI).
Bellingham Police and Fire/aid personnel responded to reports of a car crashing into a building in the 300 block of N Samish Way in Bellingham the evening of Sunday, February 18th. The minor driver reportedly suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the crash and was said to have been suffering a mental crisis at the time of the crash. The business was forced to close for a few days as a result of the damage to the building.
First responders were dispatched to a report of a car versus building at a business in the 6100 block of Portal Way in Ferndale the evening of Monday, February 19th. Whatcom County Fire District 7 Division Chief Ben Russell told Whatcom News they arrived to find to the building suffered a small dent and no structural damage. No one was injured.
Police are investigating an apparent attempted burglary of a business in the 100 block of N Samish Way in Bellingham after a stolen Kia SUV smashed into the front of the store multiple times. The incident occurred early Tuesday, February 20th. The suspects reportedly fled in a vehicle waiting nearby. Similar incidents have occurred along I-5, primarily in King County. Tuesday evening, February 20th, a semi-truck with a trailer attempted to turn onto eastbound Main Street in Ferndale from northbound on 2nd Avenue when the trailer knocked down a light standard. The light fell onto a parked car causing damage to the rear window and body. While the trailer came close to striking an overhang on the building, it did not strike the building. Traffic was impacted while efforts were made to reposition the truck and trailer. The trailer suffered at least 1 flat trailer tire as a result a witness told Whatcom News.
