CT Music: James Taylor still has some friends in Connecticut

One of America’s iconic musicians will stop in Bridgeport later this year. James Taylor & His All-Star Band will be at the Hartford HealthCare Amphitheatre on Sept. 4 and Sept. 5. Tickets go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. at LiveNation.com.

The singer-songwriter, a Massachusetts native, is known for his distinctive voice and introspective lyrics that he has shared with fans during the last half century. Taylor rose to prominence in the 1970s with his breakthrough album “Sweet Baby James,” which included hits like “Fire and Rain” and “Country Road.” His signature blend of folk, rock and pop music, coupled with heartfelt and reflective songwriting, earned him widespread acclaim. Over the years, Taylor’s work has resulted in five Grammy Awards, more than 100 million albums in sales, and a devoted fan base. Taylor’s hits include “You’ve Got a Friend,” “How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You),” “Carolina in My Mind,” “Sweet Baby James,” “Shower the People,” “Mexico” and “Up on the Roof.”

Beyond his musical achievements, Taylor has made significant contributions to the folk and rock genres, influencing generations of musicians. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2000 and received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2015 for his cultural impact. Taylor continues to perform and create music, stopping in the state regularly to perform.

LAST ENCORES: Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons are heading out on the road for “The Last Encores” Tour, with a stop at Mohegan Sun Arena on June 7.

Tickets go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. at Ticketmaster.com. If tickets remain, fans can also purchase tickets at the Mohegan Sun Box Office on Saturday, subject to availability.

Valli has sold more than 175 million records with hits like “Sherry,” “Walk Like a Man” and “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You.” This tour will be a poignant celebration of Valli’s legendary career, showcasing his timeless music and incredible showmanship.

Known as the original “Jersey Boy,” Valli’s success has been showcased not only in hit singles, but also in songs featured in films such as “Grease,” “The Deer Hunter,” “Dirty Dancing,” “Mrs. Doubtfire,” “Conspiracy Theory” and “The Wanderers.” The Broadway musical “Jersey Boys,” based on Valli’s life, is the 12th longest-running show on Broadway and has been seen by over 30 million people.

ABBA TRIBUTE: Celebrate one of the 1970s legendary bands with ABBAFAB.

The performance is June 6 in the Nancy Marine Theatre at the Warner Theatre in Torrington.

The multimedia production is a tribute featuring ABBA’s biggest hits, including “Mamma Mia,” “Waterloo,” “Fernando,” “Honey Honey” and “Dancing Queen.”

GOLDEN BOY:Dierks Bentley will return to Connecticut this summer, with an Aug. 10 stop at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville. Special guests for the “New Gravel & Gold” tour will be Chase Rice and Kaitlin Butts.

Tickets are on sale now at Ticketmaster.com and the Mohegan Sun Box office.

Bentley released his 10th studio album, “Gravel & Gold,” in 2023, 20 years after his debut album. Throughout his career, his has had 22 number one songs, eight billion streams, 15 Grammy nominations and a membership into the Grand Ole Opry.

THIS WEEK IN ROCK: On this day in 1980, Rick James launched his first headlining tour in Texas, with Prince as his opening act. Both performers released debut albums in 1978 but James was more popular at the time.
