A teen boy in Florida was pulled over for “driving erratically” on a highway at 2 a.m. this week, before police found a loaded revolver in the vehicle.
The Walton County Sheriff’s Office announced in a social media post that a 13-year-old boy, whose identity has not been shared, was driving an SUV down Highway 98 near County Highway 393 North on Thursday.
After the teen “struck a large construction barrel as the vehicle entered a construction zone” authorities were able to stop the SUV, police said.
After searching the vehicle, officers found a fully loaded 38 special revolver, a vape and a marijuana pipe, per the social media post.
The sheriff’s office then issued the teen a criminal citation for driving without a license. As of Thursday afternoon, a warrant was “being applied for on charges of minor in possession of a firearm,” police said.
“School Resource Deputies have followed up with the family and the child has been placed in distance learning pending possible arrest,” a Facebook post from the department concluded.
The Walton County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for more information on Sunday.

According to the Miami Herald, officials shared that the citation they issued to the boy “is the same as an arrest without being physically booked.”
The child was not allowed to drive away, but was rather returned to his guardians by the sheriff’s office, according to authorities.
