Loro Piana Fall 2024 Ready-to-Wear: Pinned in Excellence

A new accessory punctuated the fall 2024 collection Loro Piana presented in Milan, which honored the company’s 100th anniversary by telegraphing a further elevation and expansion of its fashion proposition into different and versatile directions, including a bigger statement in jewelry.

The brand’s “fiori di cardo” flower symbol — representing the thistle used historically as a tool to raise and brush cashmere in its factory — was turned into golden pins that closed jacket collars. The styling tip nodded to the way house founder Sergio Loro Piana used to store jackets in his wardrobe, with the lapels closed and pinned to maintain the softness of the fold.

It was a nice touch that added to the sophistication of the collection, which reprised many of the brand’s key fabrications, ranging from cashmere and vicuna to cheviot and its innovative CashDenim.

The Sopra Visso wool sourced in Italy’s Sibillini Mountains was used in craft cropped jackets and pencil skirts that offered a rustic yet chic take on the ladylike trend that ruled Milan’s catwalk this season.

The polished outdoorsy feel also informed pieces cut in the exclusive “Pecora Nera” naturally dark wool sourced in New Zealand.

Overall the collection was a standout, filled with wearable pieces that appeared simple to the eye yet felt uber luxurious to the touch, only this time embracing an even wider spectrum of occasions and shapes. Anoraks and trenchcoats mingled with liquid silk jackets and printed dresses that leaned more on a feminine attitude.

Eveningwear is also becoming a serious — and charming — business at Loro Piana, with band collar jackets and blazers with embroidered lapels as ideal for a soirée as an allover sequin dress in silk georgette is perfect for the red carpet. The male counterpart offered double-breasted tuxedos and plush shearling coats, adding to the daywear proposition of field jackets, unstructured blazers and roomy overshirts.
