Many believe third time is the charm and that certainly applies to the new mid-size luxury SUV from Infiniti. The QX60 debuted in 2022 and leads the Infiniti QX segment, selling just under 30,000 copies last year. That’s nearly three times its larger brethren QX80.

We were not the only ones impressed with the QX60 ride and safety features. It garnered a Top Safety Pick Plus two years running from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), a leading independent research organization dedicated to highway safety. Its standard features are tops in the industry.

The QX60 is available in four trim levels: oddly named Pure, Luxe, Sensory and our tester for the week, the Autograph. Base prices range from $49,650-66,100.

Powering the QX60 is a single engine — a 3.5-liter V6 that develops 270 pound-feet of torque with 295 horsepower to move the 4,600-pound SUV. Our test car with all-wheel drive and nine-speed automatic transmission handled most maneuvers with ease and managed the zero to 60 mile-per-hour sprint in 6.7 seconds, above average for its class.

Without turbo power, we observed bland acceleration off the line with engine immobilization adding to its sluggish behavior. Once up to speed, the QX60 delivers a superb ride with excellent handling. It will tow up to 6,000 pounds and includes an electronic control unit, transmission oil cooler, wiring harness and sway control.

Adult seating is available in all three rows and the second-row slides to and fro for nearly 6 inches and can also flip upward, making access to the third row a snap. Additionally, all seat backs recline for extra comfort.

Quilted semi-aniline leather draped first and second row seating in our tester while front seats are ventilated, powered and heated with massage controls for each. Second row Captain’s chairs were also standard in our tester. The rear center console is removable if extra space is needed.

Dual 12.3-inch displays house instrument cluster information and infotainment features including controls for a 17-speaker Bose audio system and one of the best navigation systems we have run across.

A large compartment up front and cargo space up to 76.5 cubic feet is available with the second and third row seats folded flat. Conversely, with up to seven passengers in three rows, there is 15.8 cubic feet available.

The QX60 faces stiff competition with BMW X5 as well as Volvo XC90, Acura MDX and Lincoln Aviator. From a value standpoint, the QX60 costs nearly $10,000 more than the Kia Telluride, Hyundai Palisade and Nissan’s own Pathfinder — all of which offer similar performance and panache.

Infiniti has added an impressive list of standard safety features to prevent accidents or injury including forward emergency braking, blind spot monitoring/intervention, pedestrian detection, lane departure prevention, rear cross traffic alert and adaptive cruise with stop/hold.

One helpful option is All-Around View monitoring that takes the guesswork out of parallel parking. It projects a 360-degree view from above along with front and rear sonar and object detection sensors to help maneuver into tight spaces.
