Group aims to help veterans with food, clothing donation

INDIANAPOLIS – A local labor union made a significant difference in the lives of Hoosier veterans.

Laborers’ Local 120 donated more than 1,100 pounds of food and clothing to Helping Veterans and Families (HVAF) on Friday. The nonprofit group provides support and resources to homeless veterans and their families.

“When the community rallies around them and says you’re worth helping, and we want to be here for you, that can be an incredible boost to the veterans we serve,” said Emmy Hildebrand with HVAF.

Hildebrand pointed to an increased need among food insecure veterans driven by higher food prices.

“We had a ton of clothing, from jeans to shirts to shoes to pants hats to winter sweatshirts and really turned out fantastic,” said Chris Brickey with Laborers’ Local 120.

The union represents more than 2,400 men and women who live and work in central Indiana. The group said the donation continues its mission to make a positive impact on the community.
