Handcuffed car theft suspect escapes cops outside Philadelphia hospital

An accused car thief escaped from police while in handcuffs outside a Philadelphia hospital Monday morning.

Alleem Bordan, 29, was being discharged from Temple University Hospital’s Episcopal Campus around 6:45 a.m. after receiving treatment when he escaped while in police custody.

Officers were walking him to a patrol car when he slipped free, outran the officers and “disappeared” in the city’s Kensington neighborhood, Police Deputy Commissioner for Investigations Frank Vanore said.

Officials said Bordan was apprehended on Sunday in connection with a vehicle theft last Thursday when a food delivery driver’s car was stolen. Bordan was allegedly sleeping in the vehicle when it was recovered.

He attempted to drive away and rammed into a patrol car, officials said.

Bordan said he was in pain while being processed, prompting a visit to the hospital.

“If a prisoner complains of pain or has an injury, it’s our policy that we take them to a facility,” Vanore said.

An “intense search” for the suspect is ongoing, officials said.

It’s possible he has managed to get out of the handcuffs, police said.

Vanore said multiple schools near the hospital were briefly in lockdown after the escape but those lockdowns were lifted.
