BEND, Or. (KTVZ) — Travel Patrol Troop 69 is working to raise funds to visit England and Switzerland next summer. And their main fundraising motivator is one just about everyone is familiar with.
That’s right: It’s Girl Scout Cookies season once again!
“My favorite part about being a Scout is definitely Travel Patrol,” Harper said.
In Travel Patrol, Girl Scouts learn important planning and budgeting skills, socialize with other Scouts and go on fun adventures.
Harper’s been a Girl Scout for a year now, and she looks forward to more character-building experiences.
“I’ve really improved on my people skills,” Harper said. “I was always really shy and an introvert I guess. But, when you get to really talking to people, you just get more extroverted.”
Liv said her years in Girl Scouts has taught her to be business-savvy.
“I’ve learned how to be an entrepreneur, businesswoman, how to do money-earners, budget stuff,” Liv said.
Laina, a Girl Scout veteran, displayed her vest covered in badges, which speaks a great deal to her community involvement through the Scouts over the the past decade.
“I’ve grown a lot in the past 10 years,” Laina said.
Laina recently earned her Silver Award by committing 50 hours of community service to delivering hair kits to foster kids with Afrocentric hair.
Liv plans to earn her Silver Award this summer by hosting a support group for the siblings of kids who have autism.
“My brother has autism and that’s one of the reasons I came up with it,” she said, “because I think I really needed support, especially when I was younger, which is what I’m hosting it for — younger kids.”
Harper received a Leader In Action (LIA) Award, by preparing snacks for a Brownie troop at a camporee last year.
Over the past few years, Travel Patrol Troop 69 had the chance to visit various destinations, including Seattle, Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe and the Grand Canyon.
Now, with Girl Scout cookie season back in full swing, they hope to raise enough funds for the 2025 summer trip.
When I asked the girls which cookies were more popular, I was glad to hear my own personal favorite, Samoas, made the list.
“Definitely Thin Mints, Samoas and Tagalongs are always the top three,” Liv said.
You’ll be able to find Girl Scout Cookies booths set up in front of several stores around the area, including Fred Meyer, Walmart, Safeway, Market of Choice, Newport Market and Lowe’s.
