‘The Acolyte’, Disney’s Star Wars Series, Has High Pre-Production Costs

Disney has said that it spent a lot of money on the pre-production of The Acolyte, its new Star Wars streaming show.

The show takes place before the main Star Wars movies and will be available on Disney+ next year. Forbes says that The Acolyte’s pre-production spending was $5.5 million more than that of the big-screen Star Wars hit Rogue One.

Even though The Acolyte’s pre-production costs were much higher, it’s important to remember that last year’s Star Wars streaming series, Andor, cost 38% more because of all the COVID-19 rules that had to be followed during the height of the pandemic.

The main parts of the Star Wars story also had pre-production budgets that were similar to The Acolyte. The Last Jedi’s pre-production costs were only 17% higher than The Acolyte’s.

Even though it has a big budget, not much is known about The Acolyte. The only thing we know for sure is that it takes place about 100 years before Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. Lee Jung-jae from “Squid Game,” Manny Jacinto from “The Good Place,” Dafne Keen from “Logan,” and Keanu Reeves in a cameo role were recently added to the group.

The Acolyte is made in the United Kingdom, where it can take advantage of the Television Tax Relief plan, which lets studios get back up to 25% of the money they spend in the country. This plan is one reason why pre-production costs for The Acolyte were so high.

Disney’s recent decision to focus on theater releases for its Marvel and Star Wars brands shows that they are trying to keep costs down and save money.
