March arrives in frosty lamb fashion

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -It’s the first of March and a huge day in Collis P.’s namesake as the Thudnering Herd baseball team hosts their season home opener at brand new Jack Cook field. Weather-wise, odds favor a dry period thru 3pm with rain likeey after 6pm. So umpires, keep the game moving so we can avoid the steadier showers of early evening.

As for the fable of March, the old wives tale focuses on how volatile and fickle the weather is during March. The saying goes “when March comes in like a lamb it roars out like a lion”…or vice versa…”when the lion howls early on, the month ends with a warm and cuddly lamb-like personality”. Given the wild temperatures that occur during March, it is true, there will be several important weather changes this month. That means March will live up to the lion-lamb nickname.

Specifically looking into the first weekend of March, Friday will dawn with a frosted chill and a red sky sunrise. I am calling it a “frosty lamb”. Clouds will then increase and by afternoon showers will be close by. Just how close to Jack Cook field will need to be determined when we get a look at doppler radar on Friday afternoon. Suffice it to say, Friday night will see a ground dampening from shwoers.

The weekend will feature plenty of clouds with sun breaking thru on Sunday. Highs in the 50s on Saturday will jump well into the 60s by Sunday. Then next week, a bounty of sun will propel highs back to 70 degrees when another spring fever alert will go into effect.
