Anisuz Zaman

Fiction writer and translator Anisuz Zaman’s four new literary works are available at the Amar Ekushey Book Fair.

The writer’s collection of short stories titled Kathure Kathan has been published by Bidyaprokash, while his Bangla translations of three novels have been published by Pathak Shamabesh.

‘Cover designed by artist Razib Datta, Kathure Kathan contains 24 short stories, which I have written in the past three years,’ Anisuz Zaman told New Age.

He also said that after he conceived a plot, he picked the characters who would execute it and looked for an appropriate form to express the story.

‘The forms of my short stories vary depending on their plots. I do not determine a form first. After a story come to mind, I settle the content,’ added Anisuz Zaman.

The writer-translator’s translated novels are Peruvian novelist Mario Vargas Llosa’s Elogio de la madrastra’s Bangla translation titled Bimatar Gungan; Cuban novelist Alejo Carpentier’s El Reino de este Mundo’s E Jagater Rajatwa; and  Argentine novelist Adolfo Bioy Casares’ La invención de Morel translation Moreler Udbhaban.

‘In 2010, Llosa received the Nobel Prize in Literature. He was awarded the prize for his cartography of structures of power and his trenchant images of the individual’s resistance, revolt and defeat. I hope readers will be moved by reading the novel,’ Anisuz Zaman mentioned, adding, ‘Bengali readers will get a glimpse of the universality of Spanish literature by reading E Jagater Rajatwa and Moreler Udbhaban.’

Bimatar Gungan, E Jagater Rajatwa and Moreler Udbhaban are available at the stall of Pathak Shamabesh, and Kathure Kathan is available at the stall of Bidyaprokash at the book fair.
