BRIEF: Ferndale man accused of hitting WCSO patrol car, attempting to escape


BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A Ferndale man was arrested after intentionally backing his car into a patrol vehicle.

Whatcom County Sheriff’s spokesperson Deb Slater says that deputies attempted to pull the suspect over on Northwest Drive in Bellingham early Saturday. The driver pulled his car into a parking space, but immediately backed into the patrol car before taking off. Deputies found the car abandoned near Bellis Fair Mall.

The suspect, 18-year-old Tyler Mattingley, was tracked down by a K9 and arrested shortly afterwards. A search of Mattingley uncovered suspected meth, fentanyl pills and powder.

He faces a total of six charges stemming from the hit-and-run, in addition to another warrant for shoplifting. A side mirror was damaged on the patrol car, but no injuries were reported.
