PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) – The Grand Central Mall is filled with over 70 race cars of different sizes, ages, and colors.
Some of the many different types at the car show are late model stock, sprint, create late model, and kids go-karts.
The car show is a way for fans to see the cars up close and interact with the drivers.
President of the West Virginia Racing Heritage Festival Ashley Ness talked about the importance of sponsors in racing.
“The fans get to see the sponsors, and who is supporting the auto racing deal. It’s very important for us to be able to do that. Again, it is about preserving and creating auto racing history,” said Ness.
This year’s event is showing a lot of history with cars and drivers from several three-generation racing families.
“Sel Wigal, Lee Wigal, and Zach Wigal. Zach Wigal is a 16-year-old Parkesburg High School student. Then the Scotts; Robby Scott, and Bob Scott is departed but Robby has put his dad’s car together and it’s on display there. Also, his son Evan’s go-kart is in there this year, the flat cart,” shared Ness.
Along with the multi-generational families participating in the show, there is also a popular car that you should keep your eyes out for.
It is the Jim Dunn car, which actually caused a famous racer to visit the Mid-Ohio Valley once.
“If you get a chance, go by that dirt car. It is a red car with dirt as its number. The story behind that is just incredible and that’s why Dale Earnhardt Jr. came to Pennsboro Speedway, to do that story with that car and that race track,” explained Ness.
The cars will be at the mall through Sunday with drivers and sponsers visiting on Saturday.
