DERRY, NH — Route 28 in Derry is closed after a crash at the intersection of Lawrence Road on Monday.
Police and fire rescue teams were sent to the intersection just before 3 p.m. The first officers found a 2000 Honda Accord, “with significant front-end damage,” in the road, Capt. Vern Thomas of the Derry Police Department said. A second vehicle, a 2021 Freightliner propane truck, was also involved in the crash and was on South Range Road.
The driver of the Honda, a man, was taken by Derry fire and rescue teams to Parkland Medical Center and pronounced dead. The truck driver sustained injuries and was also taken to the medical center.
The driver of the Freightliner was also transported to Parkland Medical Center with possible injuries.
“The identification of both drivers is being withheld pending notification of their families,” Thomas said.
At 6:30 p.m., police reported Route 28 was closed on both sides of this intersection while the police’s accident investigation unit processed the scene.
“Detours are expected to remain in place for a few hours while the investigation is being conducted to determine the cause of the crash,” Thomas said. “Drivers are asked to seek alternate routes.”
