NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – Neighbors at a West Nashville apartment complex are fed up after at least nine cars were broken into over the weekend. It’s not the first time this has happened.
On Saturday morning many at The Summit woke up to find their car windows smashed and glove boxes opened. Metro Nashville police say it was a group of young men who were able to get away after breaking into the gated apartment complex.
Josh Rogers has lived there for three years and says he isn’t surprised. His car has been broken into twice.
“I’m potentially breaking my lease because it’s costing me more money to keep my truck here on the premises to fix it after all the break-ins than what I pay in rent,” Rogers said.
The damage in total has cost him almost $3,000.
“It would have been more had I not prevented a few of the break-ins that I saw outside,” Rogers said, “I just think that we are all very frustrated. We want something done.”
This week, Tim Worth is one of those paying after his brand-new truck was broken into.
“It’s my first car I bought so I was upset,” Worth said.
He thought his car would be safe parked inside the gated apartment complex.
“The truck had broken glass in my back window and the glove compartment was opened, but luckily they didn’t really take anything, just scrounged around,” Worth said.
They’re adding car alarms, but want Summit to do its part too.
“I would like to see the apartment take accountability, to show that they are going to take steps to put security measures in place, whether it’s just to put signs up to say security cameras in use or put more security cameras around the property. Or maybe have police lighting, something that shows that the police are monitoring this,” Rogers said.
The Summit said they could not comment about the break-ins or any measures they’re taking to prevent them.
