Second Harvest Food Bank holds 2nd distribution event, more to come

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (WDTN) — The need for food remains high in Clark County, especially after last week’s severe weather and tornadoes.

To meet that need, food distributions help keep the area fed as residents recover from the devastation. The Second Harvest Food Bank held its second food distribution at Clark State.

The organization said they want to rise to the challenge of helping those in need.

“We’ve talked to a few people and they have expressed their appreciation: thank you so much, the community has pulled together so well, we can’t believe you guys were able to do this so quickly, thank you so much,” said Sarah Roberts, program manager.

Not only has the tornado weighed heavily on everyone’s minds, but circumstances have been made more overwhelming by inflation and fewer resources.

“It helps a lot when you don’t have the resources to be able to buy food. Especially with inflation,” said Angel Griffith, Springfield resident.

Some residents are going above and beyond to help others pick up the pieces. This includes Rachel Miller, who already picks up food for families with children with disabilities. She says she will also be delivering food and other necessities to those affected by the tornado.

“I actually work at a school system here locally, and we have been giving out different things to our students, different family bags and stuff so anything that we don’t use for the pickup tonight, regift to other people that are in need,” said Miller.

The Second Harvest Food Bank will be doing more distributions in the near future to help those still affected by the tornadoes. If you need assistance, contact the food bank at 937-325-8715.
