UPDATE: Car hauler overturns causing pileup on I-25

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — A semi truck hauling vehicles overturned on I-25 in Fountain on Monday evening, causing a chain reaction crash that involved between six and seven other cars and shutting down the interstate.

I-25 will remain closed for an “extended period of time,” due to the significant amount of cleanup required, according to the Fountain Fire Department (FFD).

FFD said the crash happened around 7 p.m. in the southbound lanes of I-25 at Academy Boulevard. FFD said two people had to be freed after becoming trapped in their cars. One person was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

ORIGINAL STORY: Crash shuts down I-25 in Fountain

I-25 is closed in Fountain due to a crash, according to the City of Fountain.

The City of Fountain posted at 8 p.m. on Monday, March 4, and said a crash on I-25 between the Mesa Ridge Parkway and South Academy exits has shut down I-25 in both directions.

Drivers are asked to please avoid the area and take the following detour exits: Northbound detour use Mesa Ridge and southbound should use Circle Drive.
