Despite multiple attempts to try and convince Daniel Day-Lewis to return to the big screen, he is “done” with acting. Day-Lewis, who is the only actor to have ever won Best Actor at the Oscars three times, decided that 2017’s ‘Phantom Thread’ would be his last movie. Since then, he has been offered various roles but is standing by his decision to retire. Filmmaker Jim Sheridan, who directed Day-Lewis in ‘My Left Foot’ (1989), told ScreenDaily, “He says he’s done. I’d love to do something with him again.” “He’s like everybody else. He opens up the streamers and there’s seven thousand choices; none of them are good. Film has been moved out of the public domain into a private domain…,” Sheridan told the outlet. Sheridan expressed how “great” it would be to see the ‘Lincoln’ star return to acting “because he’s so good.” In 2017, Day-Lewis’ team released a statement saying that he would “no longer be working as an actor” and that this was a “private decision.”
