Buddy Duress, Robert Pattinson’s ‘Good Times’ Co-Star, Died at 38

Buddy Duress (born Michael C. Stathis), who costarred with Robert Pattinson in the film Good Times, died at the age of 38.

Christopher Stathis, Duress’ brother, confirmed the actor’s death to People Magazine on Tuesday. He said that the Heaven Knows What actor died in November 2023 of a “cardiac arrest from a drug cocktail.”

Duress had appeared in two of the Safdie Brothers’ independent films. His debut acting role was in Benny and Josh Safdie’s 2014 film Heaven Knows What.

In a 2017 SSense interview, Duress revealed that he met Josh in 2013 after being released from Rikers Island in New York City on narcotics charges.

The star had fled after failing to complete a drug inpatient program. Duress met Josh through a mutual friend and secured the gig.

He was sent to Rikers Island when the film was done and remained there when it debuted at the New York Film Festival in 2014.

He then starred with Pattinson in Good Times three years later, when he was released.

Duress appeared in numerous further feature and short films, including 86’d, The Mountain, and The Great Darkened Days. He was arrested again in 2019 for grand larceny in the third degree.
