Adam Sandler Claims Lorne Michaels Is Still the ‘Master’ of SNL Despite Retirement Speculation

Adam Sandler, a veteran comic, does not feel Lorne Michaels is ready to step down from his Saturday Night Live throne anytime soon.

Sandler expressed suspicion about Michaels’ probable retirement in a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, despite the producer’s own words.

“I don’t see that happening,” Sandler said about Michaels’ retirement. “I don’t, maybe somebody said he might, but I talked to Lorne, and I don’t think he’s saying enough. He’s rocking. He loves it.”

Michaels, the show’s founder and longtime executive producer, has previously hinted at retirement after SNL celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2025. Sandler, a former cast member, feels Michaels is still very passionate about the musical.

“He’s just as much in it today as he was back in 1975,” Sandler remarked, alluding to the year SNL first aired. “He’s experiencing the same ‘high’ that the cast and crew feel during each show.”

Sandler’s remarks reflect those made by Michaels himself during a recent interview on The Howard Stern Show. While accepting the idea of stepping away, Michaels reaffirmed his devotion to the show’s 50th anniversary and hinted at future involvement.

With SNL still running in its 49th season, only time will tell when Michaels decides to hang up his hat. However, based on Adam Sandler’s experience and recent words from Michaels, it appears that the renowned producer still has some comedic moments in him.
