Hannah Gutierrez Reed, the armourer for the Rust film, was convicted guilty of involuntary homicide of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
After nearly three hours of deliberation on Wednesday, the jury at the First Judicial District Courthouse in Santa Fe, New Mexico, found Reed, 26, guilty of the on-the-spot fatal shooting of Hutchins, 42.
Reed was acquitted on a separate allegation of tampering with evidence.
Following the guilty judgment, Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer ruled that Gutierrez Reed be sent to the Santa Fe County Adult Detention Centre. She risks up to 18 months in prison if convicted. A sentencing date has not been determined.
Alec Baldwin, 65, the film’s star and producer, discharged a toy gun by mistake during filming on site in New Mexico in October 2021. Baldwin has, however, insisted that he did not pull the trigger.
The gun was loaded with actual rounds rather than dummy ones, resulting in Hutchins’ death.
Director Joel Souza, 50, was also hurt in the incident, which happened during a rehearsal on the set of Bonanza Creek Ranch in Santa Fe.
Reed filed a written plea of not guilty in August 2023.
Baldwin was also charged with involuntary manslaughter in January 2023, but those allegations were dismissed three months later, delaying the criminal prosecution.
According to court documents, the actor was released on personal recognizance after his second indictment in January.
