Gwyneth Paltrow Tells Candidly on the Trials of Stepmotherhood

Gwyneth Paltrow is sharing her experience as a stepmother, emphasizing the personal growth it has afforded her.

Paltrow recently spoke on her Goop podcast with Nicole Avant, a fellow stepmother, to explore the often unorthodox road of handling mixed families.

“There’s just no playbook,” Paltrow told People magazine.

She has two children with her ex-husband, Chris Martin, and is married to producer Brad Falchuk, who had two children from a previous relationship.

Although Paltrow enjoys her additional children, she admits that “the path to here was really rough.”

The actress stated that when it comes to raising stepchildren, “it’s almost like you have to embody the spirit of the sun and just give and not expect anything back.”

She went on to say, “I just learned to try to just keep shining like the sun and never keeping score.”

Avant is married to Ted Sarandos. Avant, the Netflix co-CEO, has two children from a prior relationship, and she opened out about her parenting path.

“It was extremely difficult. Sarah was 14 and Tony was 12,” Avant remarked in answer to having “halfway developed kids.”
